Assessor Qualifications:
Ideally, we will need a process that mimics the original process, that occurred in September 2024, as closely as possible. As such, we need nine (9) original assessors from the process to create the three (3) original panels to score the USERRA/Make-Up candidate(s) in a virtual process.
The original qualifying criteria included, and still includes:
Assessors must currently be in a rank equivalent to Commander, or higher, with service from cities with a population of 200,000 or greater. Assessors must have been in that rank for at least two years. Additionally, assessors must not reside in the Houston Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area, be a current or former employee of the City of Houston, HPD, the MBA or any other HPD employee group, and shall not be related by blood or marriage, nor personally known, to any candidate for promotion in Houston Police. We are seeking diverse panels, by both gender and race, by Police Officers who fit the above criteria and are available to attend and serve as an assessor.
Logistical Specifics:
The Assessment Center activities will be held virtually. Each assessor will need high speed internet on a laptop or tablet to download candidate videos and Microsoft Teams to work together to score the candidates. Houston Police will have one (1) Commander candidate testing, and three (3) exercises to be scored. Assessors will be compensated for their time in the amount of $25 per candidate, per exercise scored.
